In the second pilot episode of Star Trek, his name was given as JAMES R. KIRK. Roddenberry changed it because he liked to give characters the name Tiberius. However, it was not until STAR TREK 6 in 1991 that his full name appeared on screen. [Actually, in Star Trek: The Animated Series, season two, episode "Bem" made in 1974, we hear multiple times the full name James Tiberius Kirk.]
