Artificial quantum singularities served as the primary power source for large Romulan spacecraft, such as the D'deridex-class warbird. Once activated, the singularity core cannot be shut down.

This is not as wild an idea as you might think. Using mini-black holes is an idea that has been around for a while. Many scientists believe that it is possible with today's technology. They propose to take a 142 square mile solar panel and place it about a million miles away from the sun. (The Earth is about 93 million miles away from the sun.) It would take this panel about a year to collect enough energy to power lasers that could form a micro-singularity. With this as a power source, they estimate that a trip to Alpha Centarui could take about 3-5 years. These micro-singularities don't last forever so you would have to find one big enough to do what you wanted to, but small enough to handle. However, a black hole, even a small one, is a dangerous object.
