Answer #1Edit

according to the Klingon dictionary: lu',Luq ra nay jIH The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.109.162.241 (talk).

I'm afraid this answer is very incorrect. The words resemble Klingon words, but at best, the sentence means "OK! OK! Somebody commands, the female viewscreen marries."
Presumably, the responder attempted to do a word-by-word translation using words and suffixes from The Klingon Dictionary, which does not work because Klingon grammar is completely different from English. Tesseraktik (talk) 21:42, March 2, 2013 (UTC)

Answer #2Edit

It is uncertain if Klingons themselves would have such a stock phrase, but a fairly direct translation would be:

  • If asking a woman to marry you: chonayqang'a'?
  • If asking a man to marry you: choSawqang'a'?

These both literally mean roughly "Are you willing to marry me?", but the verb varies depending on if the one asked is a man or a woman.

The one asked may then answer HISlaH! (or HIja'!) for "Yes!", and ghobe'! for "No!".

However, a Klingon might instead express her-/himself in terms of what she/he wants, rather than asking what her/his parnet wants. So, you might instead say "I want to marry you.".

  • If you are a woman, this becomes qanay vIneH.
  • If you are a man, this becomes qaSaw vIneH.

If the one asked is a woman, she may respond with

  • Positive answers:
    • "I want to marry you, too." = qanay vIneH je.
  • Negative answers:
    • "But I don't want to marry you." = 'ach qanay vIneHbe'.
    • "I refuse to marry you!" = qanayQo'!

The the one asked is a man, he may respond with

  • Positive answers:
    • "I want to marry you, too." = qaSaw vIneH je.
  • Negative answers:
    • "But I don't want to marry you." = 'ach qaSaw vIneHbe'.
    • "I refuse to marry you!" = qaSawQo'!

You might even go so far as to make it a command:

  • If the one you're asking is a woman: HInay!
  • If the one you're asking is a man: HISaw!

The one asked may then respond lu'! (or luq!) for "Yes, I will!", or Qo' for "No, I refuse!". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tesseraktik (talkcontribs)
